I have lived in Woodlawn for 25+ years after graduating from SSA down the street. I like to think the university is a thorn in my side! Things have improved but there is still an attitude of not crossing the median on 61st Street! My grown children went to school in Hyde Park. My son was mugged twice in Hyde Park by H.P. residents, never in Woodlawn. You need to get your figures straight. Yes there are drugs! Yes there are shootings! But there are gardens, dog communities, people who care about others, friendly neighbors, etc. Please don't treat us like we are lepers.

The University has good reasons to to establish borders and be worried about safety. Woodlawn is a community that harbors criminals the rapes, robbery, and gun deathin hyde park can be attributed to the criminals in this community. This neighborhoods is filled with gangs and shootings. The University needs to help develop this community, this neighborhood continues to be a thorn in hyde parks' side. People who have no business there should stay out of Woodlawn (until its fully gentrified )don't be naive and believe what the liberals tell them. This is a dangerous place.
